Situated at the southern area of the Bulgarian Black Sea coastline on a picturesque peninsular, Sozopol is the oldest Bulgarian seaside town. Known in the past as Apollonia Pontica, the town has unique architecture and numerous archeological monuments, witnesses of its rich culture. More than 45 buildings in the old part of the town have been announced as national cultural monuments, including the 14th century church “St. Assumption of the Virgin” famous for its exceptionally beautiful altar.
